Required by: TREC
Hours: If you are renewing for the first time, active or inactive, you must have a total of 270 qualifying real estate course hours, four hours of TREC's Legal Update I, and four hours of TREC's Legal Update II posted to your license record prior to submitting your renewal. Effective January 1, 2026, all Texas brokers renewing their licenses, regardless of whether they sponsor agents, must complete the 6-hour Broker Responsibility Course. Delegated supervisors are still required to take the course.
There are two options to knock out your SAE qualifying hours:
ABoR Academy's Education Partner: Aceable Agent
Take GRI Brokerage, Marketing: Business Skills, and Contracts to Close, part of the Graduate REALTOR® Institute designation, and earn qualifying SAE hours or all of your license renewal elective CE hours for that renewal period.
Second and All Following License Renewals
When: Every two years after the first renewal
Cost: Varies
Required by: TREC
Hours: 18 hours (4 hours TREC Legal I, 4 hours TREC Legal II, 3 hours of contract-related coursework, 7 CE elective hours).
Effective January 1, 2026, all Texas brokers renewing their licenses, regardless of whether they sponsor agents, must complete the 6-hour Broker Responsibility Course. Delegated supervisors are still required to take the course.
